Early Childhood – Beginnings
Planting Spiritual Seeds in the Next Generation
“Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” Matthew 19:14
“Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” Matthew 18:5
At St. Andrew’s, we believe that every child who comes through our doors is a uniquely crafted creation, made in His image; worthy of value, dignity and unconditional love. We long for our children to know that they can boldly approach the throne of God confident of His enormous love for them, knowing they are His pride and joy, that His heart breaks with theirs and He cries at their pain.
Below you’ll find information about what our early childhood ministry normally looks like. We have, obviously, had to change some of our processes and protocols to adjust to the ongoing global pandemic. For information about how our early childhood ministry is different right now, click here.
In Beginnings, our ministry to infants through preschoolers, we know that, despite their young age, the Holy Spirit is working in our little one’s lives, just as he works in ours. We desire to partner with parents by providing a safe, loving and secure environment where the kingdom of God can invade their hearts and change their lives.
Developmentally and age-appropriate classes are available during both the 8:45 and 11 a.m. services. You may bring your child to class at any time prior to or during the service. Snacks are provided; gluten, dairy, nut and egg-free options are available. If you would like to, you may pick your child up at The Peace so they can partake of Holy Communion with you.
Infants (newborn–12 months)
We provide a loving, safe and nurturing environment where babies experience the love of Christ.
Toddler 1 (12–23 months and walking)
One-year-olds are introduced to the Bible as God’s Word that tells stories that are true. They enjoy Bible story time, singing, playing and hearing about Christ’s love for them. Child-size New Testaments are used during Bible time.
Toddler 2 (24–36 months)
Two-year-olds are introduced to the Bible as God’s Word that tells stories that are true. They enjoy Bible story time, singing, playing and hearing about Christ’s love for them. Child-size New Testaments are used during Bible time.
Pre-K3 and Pre-K4
Journeying chronologically through the Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally-Lloyd Jones, these groups enjoy Bible story time, interactive games, art activities, music and imaginative play. The Bible stories correspond with the church liturgical calendar.
Sunday school (during adult Kingdom Life classes) time includes large group worship, music and movement time.
For mothers of newborns and those who desire to keep their young children with them in the service, a Mothers’ Room is located across the hall from the sanctuary. This room has a changing table, rockers for feeding your infant and a live audio feed from the sanctuary. The Andrew Room, down the hall from the sanctuary, contains a family bathroom and diaper changing station for families.
